At a Smurfit Kappa mill in Germany, the complete drive unit and pulper of the St9 pulper were recently rebuilt.
This is the first step towards expanding the pulper to a capacity of 55 t/h (tons per hour).
Just a few days after commissioning, the pulper could be adjusted so that instead of 480 kW power input, only 370 kW is required to reach the previous capacity, which corresponds to a saving of 110 kW.
The pigtail is also largely stable. Thus, only two pigtail breaks were noted in the first four days.
The further steps for the optimization of the resolution are planned and in the pipeline.
The Qualifiber pulping system with pulper cleaning has proven its worth in many Smurfit Kappa mills over the past four years and can now be called a “blueprint” for the Group.
